When was the last time you got a new cell phone?  How about a computer or TV?  What did you do with your old one?  The correct answer is “I brought it to an appropriate recycling center or donated it to an organization that will reuse it.”  Where can you find such places?  Start by looking on the Greener Choices website from Consumer Reports or do a google search for e-waste recycling locations in your area.  Many municipalities will also have special days when you can drop off e-waste at a designated site.  Check with your city or town hall to find out if yours does.

Why should you care about this?  If you just throw out your old electronic equipment in the trash, more than likely it ends up in a land fill somewhere.  The lead, mercury, cadmium and other toxic materials can then leak out into the soil and eventually into the ground water.  Not exactly what you want to be drinking or serving to your kids and grandkids.
