This Friday, May 16th, is National Bike to Work Day. (Which, by the way, is the last day of Bike to Work Week.) Did you know that each gallon of gasoline you burn in your car releases about 20 pounds of CO2 into the air, while biking around town burns 173 calories per hour give or take, depending on your weight, fitness level, terrain, etc.? Bike to Work Day was started way back in 1956 by the League of American Bicyclists, and has since spread to other countries. If more people biked or walked to work just think of how much cleaner the air would be, how quiet the streets would be, and how healthier we all would be.
