Halloween Candy

Trick-or-treating time is just around the corner! Don’t worry, I’m not going to lecture you on how candy and chocolate aren’t healthy, I’ve been on quite a chocolate kick myself since I found organic, fair-trade, soy lecithin free dark chocolate bars at Trader Joe’s for only $1.99 each.

That brings me to the point of this post. Why hand out mass-marketed, earth and people un-friendly candy to all the little ghosts and goblins who come creeping up to your door? Though it takes some searching, organic and fair-trade halloween treats are available. They are more expensive than the usual Halloween suspects, but that is what happens when farmers are paid fairly for their work and the earth is not doused in chemicals. These treats are also free of stuff parents hate like high-fructose corn syrup and artificial colors and flavors.

Here is an article with a nice little list of websites that have good Trick-or-Treat choices. You can find more by Googling “Organic Halloween Candy” or “Fair-Trade Halloween Candy.”

Last year I got Yummy Earth lollipops. I think I will get some more this year and supplement them with some individually wrapped mini chocolate bars from the Natural Candy Store.

Oh, and if anyone is looking for chocolates they can send me, Sweet Earth has some yummy looking ones. Just get me anything that is labeled vegan and soy-lecithin free. That way Beck won’t get sick as a result of my chocolate addiction.
