If you are going to go through the process of putting sunscreen on, it ought to work. Yet many sunscreens don’t actually offer the SPF protection they claim. Even more have ingredients that can cause cancer or other health problems themselves.

The Environmental Working Group has published the 2009 Sunscreen Guide on the Skin Deep website. Take a few minutes to check their rankings on sunscreens, lip balms, and daily moisturizers with SPF. I was disappointed to see that the tinted moisturizer I have been using doesn’t rank as high as I would like. Time to switch. Luckily, the California Baby I have been using on Beck is right up in the top ten.  The number one spot goes to Badger sunscreen.  Some other good ones are UV Naturals, Mexitan, Purple Prarie, Lavera and Soleo Organics.  Avoid the popular Banana Boat, Hawaiian Tropics, and Coppertone.
