Flu Week – Wash Your Hands

Best way to avoid getting sick? Keep your hands clean.

Wash your hands with soap and hot water for at least 20 seconds. I sing the abc’s to Beck when I wash his hands, some people sing Happy Birthday or Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. Don’t just rinse and go. That doesn’t count.

Don’t use soap with triclosan. Touted as an antibacterial wonder, triclosan can lead to drug resistant bacteria and is also linked to cancer and other health ailments. It doesn’t really make sense to put yourself at risk by using a chemical you don’t need.

I have started using Castile soap in my soap pump. It clogs up and then squirts out in powerful spurts all over you and the bathroom if you use it full strenght, but I’ve found that if you dilute it 50% with water it works great. Castile soap is great because it is made from natural ingredients like olive oil and coconut instead of petroleum by-products and it can be used for everything from cleaning your face to your floors. The Dr. Bronner’s brand is organic and comes in gallon size containers so you save on packaging as well. How Eco.
