BPA in Trader Joe’s products

I wrote before that Trader Joe’s has tomatoes in BPA free packaging. Unfortunately, the last time I was there I discovered that they have discontinued it. I had an interesting conversation with the assistant manager and followed up with the corporate office to find out what canned products contained BPA. I am happy to report that some of the cans are safe. Here is an extract of the email they sent me.

“Canned items in our stores
WITH BPA lining in the cans would include: tomatoes, tomato sauce
& paste, soups, chili, and stew.

Canned items in our stores that DO NOT
have BPA lining in the cans include: seafood (tuna, salmon, herring,
sardines, etc.), chicken, turkey & beef and now beans and corn. All of
our products and
packaging are within food safety guidelines and regulations. However, we
also wanted to inform you that we do not have any plastic packaging with
BPA.”
